| What to do with old desktop computers?
So I have 3 old desktop computers that I don't want..
2 of them are Compaq Presarios which both have 500mhz cpus and the other one is a Dell with a 900mhz cpu
Are there any stores that take these things without charging? If no store takes them free of charge they are going in the apartment dumpster. |

You can also try calling your trash company and see what they suggest.
Or if they're still working, take them to a Goodwill. |

They do work..but I took the drives out I guess I could put the 20gig or 40gig back in them.
I wasn't aware Goodwill takes old computers.
Edit: I think I'm just going to toss them..I don't want to bother putting them back together and I only have 1 power cable to spare.
Thanks for the suggestions though. |

Craigslist - gone within the day if not a couple hours I bet. I am always looking for stuff like this. a 900mhz system makes a wonderful server. They will come to you. |

@sbcglobal.net | reply to ztmike Put them on the curb. Cover them with a big clear plastic bag or something & put a sign saying free computer(s). If they are not gone with a week or so, maybe your local sanitation crew will take pity and dispose of it properly. |

Check the local county solid waste district web site to see if they have a particular day to recycle electronics. Or put them at the end of the driveway - they will likely be taken quickly.... -- Brian

| reply to ztmike The most valuable part of old computers to crooks is the hard drive, which can be scavenged for personal information for ID theft. Make sure to follow best practices before disposal.

| reply to ztmike I doubt even the school systems want system's this old. I agree with the other posters suggestions. Craigslist. You'd be surprised what an old system like this can do with a linux distro installed on it. I just set up a church with a business phone system (linux based) all running on a Dell someone was going to throw away. You may even be able to get away with asking for some beer money for these too. |

| reply to ztmike 1. Make sure the drives are wiped. 2. Just set them out by the road with a "free" sign taped to them. They will be gone within the hour...
Got rid of couches and lawnmowers that way. Works like a charm! |
